New Kent County Public Schools transports over 2000 students every day on buses.  It is our goal that all students arrive at school and are transported home safely.  To ensure that this happens we encourage parents and students to understand the bus routes, transportation procedures, and appropriate bus riding behavior.

Please review this School Bus Safety information with your children to prepare them for riding the bus.

Please remember to follow these guidelines in regards to preparing your student to ride the bus:
  • Due to the number of students moving into the county, the routes are subject to change periodically.
  • Students need to report to the bus stop 5 minutes prior to pick up times.
  • In subdivisions, instead of stopping at each house, a centralized bus stop will be created. Students may be required to walk up to three tenths of a mile.
  • Students in 2nd grade and below are required to have an adult present during drop off. If an adult is not present, the student will be returned to his/her school.

2017-2018 Bus Routes

For the 2017 – 2018 school year,  we have implemented a new routing system which will allow the department to be more efficient with routing buses, and will provide more accurate, up-to-date bus stop information to parents and students.

If you have any changes in your residence, it is very important to make sure that your child's school has the correct information, as students are assigned to routes based on the student information in our PowerSchool system. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact your local school and or the transportation department for assistance.

If your child is staying after-school and will be riding the activity bus, please refer to the Activity Bus Routes (coming soon) for information regarding where and when to pick up your child.

For specific information regarding your child's bus route, please contact the Transportation department at (804) 966-9670.

Attendance Zones

If you are unsure of which elementary school your child should attend please review the Attendance Zone Map.  If you wish to submit an attendance zone waiver, please download the form and submit it to the principal of the school for which your child is zoned to attend.

Bus Change Requests

If your child needs to ride a bus different than the one he/she normally rides then the following form needs to completed and submitted either in person or by fax.  All requests must be submitted 24 hours in advance to ensure the building administration and the transportation department are afforded an opportunity to determine if the request is able to be granted.
