Student Registration Information
If you are new to the county or have not yet registered your current or soon to be 5 year old, then make sure to contact your child's elementary school and set up a time to register.  Please download the registration packet prior to coming to ensure you bring all necessary documents with you.

There are established attendance zones that determine which elementary school students are assigned.  If you are unsure about which elementary school your child will attend, please review the attendance zone map.  A waiver is available for parents who would like their child to attend an elementary school out of their prescribed attendance zone.  The waiver must be approved by the principal.  A form for requesting the waiver of attendance zone placement and a form for employees of New Kent County Public Schools to request student admission or school placement can be found in the Out-of-Zone Attendance Guidelines and Forms.

Kindergarten Registration

Kindergarten Registration is an ongoing process from May to September. We have an initial spring registration to provide potential enrollment counts to plan accurately.

Registration packets will be available on May 4. These packets can be picked up at both elementary schools or at the Grab and Go Food pickup at New Kent High School. You also may download the registration packet from the link above. If necessary, packets can be mailed upon request.

On May 4, 5, and 6, parents will be able to call NKES/GWES from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. to set up an appointment for registration.

New Kent Elementary School - 804-966-9663
George W. Watkins Elementary School - 804-966-9660

Reservations can also be made by emailing one of the following:

New Kent Elementary School -
George W. Watkins Elementary School -

Registration will be by appointment only from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on the following dates in May: 5/11, 513, 5/15, 519, 5/21, and 5/22

Due to the recommendations on social distancing, appointments will be limited to one adult per family and no children will be able to attend. Also, for everyone’s safety and comfort, wear a mask and gloves if you are able.

Please complete the packet before your appointment and bring all required documentation as listed on the first page of the registration packet.

We will do our best to also advertise through social media and the local newspaper to communicate this information. Please share this information with friends or neighbors who might have a student ready to enter Kindergarten.

Registration packets with all of the required information/documentation will also be accepted through the mail or can be dropped off at NKES/GWES if you are not comfortable with making an in-person appointment at this time.

Please know, however, that we will need to meet in person to review the packet before school begins.

If you are unable to schedule an appointment during these times, we will have more dates in the future for parents to come in and register their students.

Thanks and we look forward to seeing you soon and getting your student ready for a great start to school!
