The New Kent County School Board announced at the Monday, March 4th monthly meeting that it will begin the process of hiring a new superintendent by seeking public input on qualifications.

Superintendent Search Survey Results

 

The New Kent County School Board would like to thank the New Kent community for taking the time to complete the Superintendent Search survey. A total of 513 responses were received. 65% of respondents were parents; 24% were school employees; 3% community, social or civic organizations; .97% student and 5.85% selected “other”. In addition to the survey, those that work closely with superintendents - central office administration, principals and county government representatives - were interviewed.

The majority of survey respondents indicate they want:

  • A person who can blend decisive leadership characteristics with an open, shared decision-making process.
  • A leader who possesses passion and vision to move New Kent schools forward.
  • A good listener, a strong communicator, a consistent and caring individual.
  • One who understands the importance of effective school discipline.
  • A leader with a doctorate as well as experience as a Principal and/or Associate/Assistant Superintendent.
  • One with experience as a central office administrator.

Survey respondents indicated they strongly preferred our leader to:

  • Have experience in Virginia.
  • Be a resident of New Kent county.
  • Have experience teaching at multiple levels, particularly at the high school level.
