Superintendent's Message - 08-19-2020
This is the image for the news article titled Superintendent's Message - 08-19-2020Good evening New Kent Families.

This is Brian Nichols, proud superintendent.  We will open the 2020-21 academic year on Tuesday, September 8, delivering full-time virtual learning to all students.  Our distance learning model will provide students in grades PK-12 with live, real-time instruction from their teachers and independent learning opportunities Monday through Friday.

This learning model will look different from the emergency closure efforts last spring.  Attendance in daily instructional sessions is required, and student work will be graded.  Students will participate in a full schedule of courses. High school students participating in advanced programs that include college coursework (Dual Enrollment, Advanced Placement courses, Bridging Communities and Chesapeake Bay Governor’s School) will still be able to do so.

Over the next week, we will be sharing critical updates to our virtual learning program, including schedules, chrome book distribution, orientations, and virtual learning guidelines.  For students without reliable internet service, we are working to provide an opportunity to access their virtual learning at school. This service will include transportation, our breakfast/lunch program, reliable internet service, and supervision from NKCPS team members on-site at each of our four schools.  We will also provide more information about the timeline for implementing this initiative soon.

As a school community, we are committed to protecting the health and safety of our students, staff, and families and doing all we can to mitigate the spread of COVID-19, expediting a safe return to in-person learning for all students.  Thank you for your support.
