New Kent County Public Schools transports over 2000 students every day on buses.  It is our goal that all students arrive at school and are transported home safely.  To ensure that this happens we encourage parents and students to understand the bus routes, transportation procedures, and appropriate bus riding behavior.

Please review this School Bus Safety information with your children to prepare them for riding the bus.

Please remember to follow these guidelines in regards to preparing your student to ride the bus:
  • Due to the number of students moving into the county, the routes are subject to change periodically.
  • Students need to report to the bus stop 5 minutes prior to pick-up times.
  • In subdivisions, instead of stopping at each house, a centralized bus stop will be created. Students may be required to walk up to three-tenths of a mile.
  • Students in 1st grade and below are required to have an authorized person present at the bus stop. If an authorized person is not present, the student will be returned to his/her school.  For more information please refer to the Parent and Student Handbook.

Transportation Routing Update - Return to In-person Learning for 3/1/2021

Parents that signed up for transportation when they completed the survey all received transportation. We notified every parent that signed up. We also mailed out all of the bus information to parents so that you will have a hard copy, and to reach parents that did not have a good contact number in PowerSchool. If you did not receive a call from us, then it's a good chance that your contact information needs to be updated. Please contact your school immediately to do this.

If a parent switched a student from virtual to in-person learning after Tuesday, February 16, 2021, and needs transportation for their child, then the parent must fill out the bus stop change request form (located under the transportation tab) requesting transportation. Since this is after the deadline, and for planning purposes, Transportation will not be eligible for students starting on 3/1 and will not be able to receive transportation until Monday, March 15, 2021, if not sooner. Many of the schools communicated this information to parents when they requested to change to in-person.

We sent all bus information to all four schools to assist students just in case they forget their bus number. They can simply ask their teacher/office staff and they can pull their bus information up for them.

We are glad to have you back, and good luck to you this school year!

Our office hours are Monday - Friday 6 AM - 5 PM. Phone - 804.966.9670

Additional Transportation Information

If you have any changes in your residence, it is very important to make sure that your child's school has the correct information, as students are assigned to routes based on the student information in our PowerSchool system.

As we are working completely in manual mode with different schedules, we are not able to display routes as we’ve been able to do in the past. Instead, we will personally call each parent with their child's bus information. In addition, we will mail out student bus information to ensure that parents will have a copy of their child’s bus pickup/drop-off times.
Oftentimes, when new stops are added, times will change especially if a bus needs to travel down a different road. For planning purposes, and out of fairness to other parents and students, we must be able to give the existing students on the bus proper notification before changing the times suddenly.

If you have any questions, please feel to email the transportation team at, or you can reach us by phone during normal business hours at 804.966.9670.

After-school activities started on December 7th.  In order to ride the activity bus, students must let their coach know that they need to be added to the activity bus schedule.  The coach will communicate with the transportation department.  The Activity routes may be accessed below:

Attendance Zones

If you are unsure of which elementary school your child should attend please review the Attendance Zone Map.  If you wish to submit an attendance zone waiver, please download the form and submit it to the principal of the school for which your child is zoned to attend.

Bus Change Requests

Due to the limited number of students we are able to have on a bus at this time, we are not able to honor any bus passes.
